Tips for Staying Consistent in your Fitness Routine this Holiday Season

Summer is a wonderful time – with vacations, time with friends and family, and enjoying the warm weather. It can also lead to falling off the wagon when it comes to your fitness routine. And that’s ok! As autumn approaches and the holidays start ramping up, it can be difficult to pick up and stick to a fitness routine.

Here are some tips to get you started and keep you motivated through the colder months:

Add movement in small increments:

No matter if you’re new to fitness or have been away from it for a while, it’s important to start with small, achievable goals. Starting small can help you build consistency. When fitness becomes a part of your routine, it makes it easier to maintain even during those busy seasons. Start with small increments of time – even 5 minutes at a time can add up! After you’ve become more consistent in your workouts, slowly increase the time and intensity.

Revisit Your Goals:

If you set up goals at the beginning of the year, it can be helpful to revisit them to get you re-motivated. Whether or not you’ve been consistently working towards them or not, you don’t have to wait for the beginning of next year to start working towards them again. Make sure to set specific plans and goals that are focused on the end of the year and what will work best for you.

Find Your Balance:

A healthy lifestyle isn’t just about working out. It’s a combination of fitness, sleep, healthy eating, social time, mental exercise, and rest. Finding the right balance is tough! It is a continuous journey and doesn’t look the same for everyone. Just remember that fitness can do wonders for increasing energy, reducing anxiety, and feeling better overall. It should therefore continually be a part of your life.

Involve the Family:

As autumn and winter approach, family time often takes priority. If you’re feeling like you have no time to fit in a workout with family running around the house – try doing it with the family! It can be as simple as taking a walk together, taking a group class, or even playing your favorite sport. It all counts.

Lastly, don’t forget to give yourself grace. It can take time to find that balance!
